Low-E, or low-emissivity, glass was created to reduce as much as possible the amount of infrared and ultraviolet light that comes through glass, without minimizing the amount of light that enters a space.
Low-E glass has an extremely transparent, thin and heat reflecting coating. This Low-E coatings keeps the temperature of the space consistent by reflecting the interior temperatures back inside.
There are two types of Low-E coatings:
Passive Low-E Coatings (Hard-Coat): The passive Low-E coating is manufactured using the pyrolytic process, which creates a durable pyrolytic coating on the surface of the glass.
Solar Control Low-E Coatings (Soft-Coat): This coating needs to be sealed in an insulated glass or laminated unit. The soft-coat has lower emissivity and superior solar control performance.
