Laminated glass is the name given to safety glass that consists of two or more sheets of glass that are united using transparent οr translucent polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer(s) inside a special industrial furnace. If more than 2 sheets of glass are united, the final product is included in the category of anti-trauma, anti-vandal or bulletproof glass.
There is also the potential of adding the so-called acoustic PVB interlayer that delivers acoustic insulation that absorbs sound and blocks it out as well as coloured films used for aesthetical reasons. Laminated glass is also available with energy coating.
In the category of safety glass, we also find tempered glass with a high resistance to thermal shock and extremely greater mechanical strength compared to ordinary glass.
In case of breakage, it breaks into many small pieces in order for injury to be avoided.
